Out of my hands

Last evening as my wife and I were on our way back from watching my last sunset being 39 (pictured above) she said "I had this song (the song playing on the truck radio as we drove back home) in my head when I woke up this morning AND then it was the song that was playing when you had Alexa play K-Love this morning when you woke up AND now it's playing on the radio again."

For yesterday's weekly meeting, the homework assignment in our workbook was titled "Trusting God In The Moment" and begins with Luke 22:24-34.

The Argument about Greatness

24 An argument broke out among the disciples as to which one of them should be thought of as the greatest. 25 Jesus said to them, “The kings of the pagans have power over their people, and the rulers claim the title ‘Friends of the People.’ 26 But this is not the way it is with you; rather, the greatest one among you must be like the youngest, and the leader must be like the servant. 27 Who is greater, the one who sits down to eat or the one who serves? The one who sits down, of course. But I am among you as one who serves.

28 “You have stayed with me all through my trials; 29 and just as my Father has given me the right to rule, so I will give you the same right. 30 You will eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom, and you will sit on thrones to rule over the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus Predicts Peter's Denial

31 “Simon, Simon! Listen! Satan has received permission to test all of you, to separate the good from the bad, as a farmer separates the wheat from the chaff. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith will not fail. And when you turn back to me, you must strengthen your brothers.”

33 Peter answered, “Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you and to die with you!”

34 “I tell you, Peter,” Jesus said, “the rooster will not crow tonight until you have said three times that you do not know me.”

- Luke 22:24-34 (GNT)

Jesus basically tells Simon (Peter) ""Your life is going to be thrown up in the air and everything is going to fly apart, but I have prayed for you." It's encouraging when you realize that the main reason you are still here is that Jesus prayed for you specifically. Knowing all your weaknesses and struggles, all of your trauma and trials, all of your fears and insecurities, He passionately prayed for you."

"You only have to trust God in the moment you are in right now." - Pillar Five, Lesson Two, Seven Pillars of Freedom Workbook

Part of the lesson involved writing down statements for facing spiritual opposition. Here are some of mine:

  • I believe God when there is friction in my marriage.
  • I believe God when my children challenge me.
  • I believe God when I'm scared people are out to get me.
  • I believe God when times are going great.
  • I believe God when doubts arise.

"You are no greater than what you truly believe." - Pillar Five, Lesson Two, Seven Pillars of Freedom Workbook

So, what was the song?! It's fitting for sure! But before I get to it, for my 40th birthday I am asking and praying that YOU would attend church this Sunday. In person or online. If you're not sure where to go or what church to watch let me know, I have lots of great options for you! Additionally, if you'd like to put some icing on my cake, please encourage or invite others to attend a Sunday service (in person or online) too, perhaps WITH YOU! Thank you! Without further adieu the song was Out of My Hands by Jeremy Camp. By the way, there's a great movie based on Jeremy's life called "I Still Believe". I recommend watching it sometime if you haven't. You can listen to Out of My Hands below.
